Child Care
Child care volunteers nurture and care for children while mothers attend support groups. Volunteers will run structured playgroups, engage in age appropriate activities, and maintain a safe environment. Patience, enthusiasm, flexibility, and knowledge of positive discipline techniques are important in this position. We welcome your creativity and ideas for activities to do with children. No volunteer is allowed to work alone with the children. A minimum of two volunteers are needed to run a childcare group. Groups meet Tuesday and Thursday. Summer time volunteers are needed to come to the shelter during the day to help with the children. Because children in shelter have to deal with chaotic and constantly shifting living situations, they need people around them on whom they can rely. Volunteers, therefore, must make the time and commitment to allow feelings of trust to develop with the children with whom they interact.
Fundraising
Volunteers involved in agency fundraising must be enthusiastic, highly organized, and innovative. Fund-raisers will work closely with the agency's Executive Director. Tasks may include assisting in mailing appeals, setting up and cleaning up at events, and working at fundraisers. Volunteers may also be involved in special programs: October National Violence Awareness Month, the Holiday Gift Giving Program, and Back-to-School Program.
Office Volunteer
Office volunteers can get involved in a variety of projects and on-going duties. Organizing information packets, photocopying, sending out form letters, and coordinating large office projects are some of the tasks, which an office volunteer can perform. We will provide on-the-job training for volunteers who have office skills.
Shelter and Children's Center Volunteer
Shelter volunteers are needed to assist the shelter manager with upkeep of the house. Food shopping, organizing closets, preparing rooms, and other shelter and children's center maintenance is needed. The position is primarily for a day or evening volunteer with good organizational skills.
Student Interns
From time to time, the Network offers unpaid student internships to students from various colleges. The details of the internship vary with each individual.
